Hampir semua tapered yang ada sekarang ini adalah yang berukuran – inchi. Satuan yang dipakai untuk headset dan diameter fork adalah inchi, dan panjang ini menyatakan diameter bagian terluar Outside Diameter/OD dari batang fork. Istilah OS OverSize dipakai untuk ukuran fork yang lebih besar dari ukuran standard. Ukuran standard sendiri berubah tergantung ukuran apa yang paling banyak dipakai. Dulu fork 1 1/4 disebut oversize, tetapi sekarang 1 1/2 yang disebut oversize, karena fork sudah semakin banyak dipakai. Kenapa tapered headtube Headtube taper sendiri dibuat untuk sebagai transisi dan pilihan yang lebih baik diantara ukuran dan inchi. Dibanding yang berukuran lebih besar, ukuran head tube dan fork yang berdiameter kecil dianggap kurang kuat, kokoh, dan kaku stiff dalam steering atau kontrol sepeda, tetapi memiliki bobot yang ringan. Bentuknya yang melebar atau membuka ke bawah membuatnya bisa menopang lebih kuat dari pada fork yang lurus. Analoginya mirip seperti kuda-kuda berdiri dengan kaki terbuka dibandingkan kaki yang rapat. Pemakaian headtube tapered dianggap bisa memberikan kontrol sepeda yang lebih stabil, presisi, cornering yang lebih mulus, dan responsive, tanpa harus memiliki dimesni yang terlalu besar dan berat seperti headtube OverSize. Bentuk headtube harus sama dan kompatible dengan ukuran fork yang dipakai. Headtube lurus straight untuk fork non-tapered, dan headtube tapered untuk fork yang tapered. Pada kenyataannya memang secara performa terasa sedikit lebih baik, banyak juga yang merasa sama saja, bisa dikatakan tidak terlalu signifikan. Meningkatnya pemakaian sepeda dengan headtube taper, karena memang sepeda sekarang kebanyakan diproduksi sudah dengan tapered fork dan headtube, mungkin karena permintaan pesepeda yang lebih banyak terhadap tapered dibadingkan yang lurus. Kompabiliti dan pilihan part tapered yang semakin banyak, juga meningkatkan produksi fork tapered. Sehingga akan semakin susah nantinya untuk mencari part pengganti atau pendukung untuk part headtube lurus. Konverter/Adapter Fork dan Head Tube Munculnya taper ini tentu saja membuat sistem kompabiliti yang lebih kompleks. Headtube dan fork harus sejenis dan dengan diameter yang sesuai. Walaupun begitu, selalu ada adaptor atau konverter yang bisa kita pakai, untuk membuat fork dan headtube tapered dan non tapered bisa dipasang. Headset/headtube adalah salah satu komponen yang kompleks, memiliki banyak jenis, seperti type external, semi integrated, dan integrated, dan lainnya. Dengan banyaknya kemungkinan kombinasi fork-headtube tapered-lurus dan ukuran yang bisa terjadi, maka konverter juga sangat beragam ukuran dan merknya. Tidak semua konverter mudah didapat, terutama untuk komponen-komponen sepeda lama yang semakin berkurang jumlahnya. Konverter/Adapter Fork lurus ke Frame tapered Dengan konverter jenis ini, kita bisa memasang fork tapered pada head tube yang lurus. Adaptor ini lebihmudah untuk didapat, karena sepeda-sepeda baru lebih banyak memakai tapered. Converter yang paling umum adalah memasang fork tapered ke headtube dengan Internal Diameter ID 44mm. Konverter tapered dan straight tube Konverter/Adapter Fork tapered ke frame lurus Adaptor ini berguna untuk memasang fork tapered pada frame dangan headtube lurus. Adaptor jenis ini lebih susah didapat, karena penggunaan headtube lurus yang semakin berkurang. Memang hal ini lebih repot, apalagi kalau harus mendesain sendiri, tetapi masih bisa dilakukan. Salah satu contohnya adalah cara pemasangan fork OS di frame Federal yang mempunyai headtube untuk fork 1″.
